Pilates focuses on engaging and building the core abdominal muscles - which is important for back pain recovery.  It's a gentle form of exercise that involves both stretching and strengthening the muscles.  A talented pilates instructor can adapt the core exercises to different physical limitations of his or her clients.

I was very lucky to find a wonderful Pilates instructor at Balance Within Movement Studio in Redmond, WA.  She worked very closely with me to get me moving naturally again, and was extremely careful to make sure that I didn't do anything that would make things worse.  She also worked with my PT to understand what was allowed and not allowed and what other exercises I was doing as I progressed.   I credit the Pilates with the fact that I do not walk with a limp today.

I have no relationship with the exercises and therapies I describe and created this site purely to inspire others to go take control of their own back care and to provide some ideas of treatments to discuss with your doctor.  If you find this website useful, please add a link to it from your website or blog.
